Raw milk products
FSANZ is developing a Primary Production and Processing (PPP) Standard for raw milk as part of a series of national food safety standards.
PPP Standards (which only apply in Australia) aim to strengthen food safety and traceability throughout the food supply chain from paddock to plate.
Australia has a very safe supply of milk and dairy products thanks to existing regulations in the Food Standards Code that set controls to manage potential microbiological hazards.
FSANZ created Proposal P1007 to assess alternative, feasible safety systems for raw milk products that preserve the integrity of the products while maintaining an acceptable level of public health and safety.
You can find links to the assessment reports for P1007 below. The 2nd Assessment Report recommended changes to processing requirements in Standard 4.2.4 Primary Production and Processing Standard for Dairy Products to enable the production and sale of non-pasteurised hard to very hard cooked curd cheeses.
The Final Assessment Report for P1007 is expected to go to the FSANZ Board in March.
