Food Standards Matters
Application A469 - Saccharin In Water-Based Flavoured Drinks
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an Application which seeks to increase the maximum permitted levels of saccharin and cyclamate in water-based flavoured drinks, including soft drinks and cordials. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and the proposed draft variations to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code and the Board’s decision will now be notified to Ministers.
Application A525 - Food Derived From Herbicide Tolerant Sugar Beet H7-1
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an Application which seeks to approve food derived from a genetically modified (GM) herbicide-tolerant sugar beet, sugar beet line H7-1 for inclusion in Standard 1.5.2 – Food Produced Using Gene Technology. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and the proposed draft variations to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code and the Board’s decision will now be notified to Ministers.
Application A541 – Maximum Residue Limits (June, July & August 2004)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an Application which seeks to amend Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for non-antibiotic agricultural and veterinary chemicals in the Code. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and the proposed draft variations to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code and the Board’s decision will now be notified to Ministers.
Application A537 – Reduction in the Energy Factor Assigned to Maltitol – Extension of Time
The Board considered a paper seeking to extend the time limit for consideration of the Application in accordance with the requirements of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991.The Board agreed, pursuant to section 35(2) of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991, to extend the time limit for Application A537 by 6 months to 26 November 2005.
Application A528 – Maximum Iodine Limit in Formulated Supplementary Foods for Young Children – Extension of Time
The Board considered a paper seeking to extend the time limit for consideration of the Application in accordance with the requirements of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991. The Board agreed, pursuant to section 35(2) of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991, to extend the time limit for Application A528 by a further two months to 4 August 2005, thereby increasing the previously approved extension of time (four months) to the maximum six months allowable under the Act.
Application A470 – Formulated Beverages
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for an Application which seeks the development of a new standard in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) for formulated beverages. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Proposal P288 – Food Safety Programs For Food Service to Vulnerable Populations
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for a Proposal which seeks to mandate food safety management systems for food businesses that process potentially hazardous food for service to vulnerable populations. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Application A489 – Allergen Labelling on Single Serve Packages in Outer Packaging
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for an Application to include allergen labelling on Single Serve Packages in Outer Packaging. The Board agreed to reject the application in accordance with the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991.
Application A516 – Lipase From Candida Rugosa as a Processing Aid (Enzyme )
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for an Application which seeks to amend Standard 1.3.3 – Processing Aids of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) to approve a new source of a currently approved enzyme, lipase triacylglycerol (EC number [3.1.1.3]), as a processing aid . The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Application A550 – Maximum Residue Limits – Sulphaquinoxaline (Antibiotic)
The Board considered the Initial/Draft Assessment Report for an application which seeks to vary the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for poultry meat and poultry offal, for the antibiotic sulphaquinoxaline in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code). It is an application from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to update the Code in order to reflect the current registration status of sulphaquinoxaline in use in Australia. The Board agreed to the Initial/Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Application A557 – Maximum Residue Limits - Lasalocid (Antibiotic)
The Board considered the Initial/Draft Assessment Report for an Application which seeks the establishment of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for poultry commodities, for the antibiotic lasalocid into the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code). It is an application from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to update the Code in order to reflect the current registration status of lasalocid in use in Australia. The Board agreed to the Initial/Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Application A558 – Maximum Residue Limits (Antibiotics)
The Board considered the Initial/Draft Assessment Report for an Application which seeks to vary the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for eggs, for various antibiotics in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code). It is an application from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to update the Code in order to reflect the current registration status of various antibiotics in use in Australia. The Board agreed to the Initial/Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
Application A533 – Food Derived From Glufosinate-Ammonium-Tolerant Cotton Event ll25 – Extension of Time.
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for an Application which seeks approval for food derived from genetically modified (GM) cotton line LL25 under Standard 1.5.2 – Food produced using Gene Technology of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code). Standard 1.5.2 requires that GM foods undergo a pre-market safety assessment before they may be sold in Australia and New Zealand. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board. In addition the Board agreed pursuant to section 35(2) of the Food standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991, to extend the time limit by six month to 9 December 2005.
Proposal P289 – Food Safety Programs For The Producers Of Manufactured And Fermented Meats
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for a Proposal prepared in response to a decision of the Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council to mandate food safety management systems for producers of manufactured and fermented meats. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report which will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
